We, the undersigned residents, property owners, and concerned members of the community, respectfully petition the County Commissioners to **deny the rezoning request for the Dalton Farm property located in Ellisboro, North Carolina**.
We oppose this rezoning because the proposed development raises serious concerns regarding:
### 1. Infrastructure Strain
The current infrastructure in the area is not adequate to support a development of this scale. Approval of this request would likely place added strain on roads, water and sewer systems, emergency services, schools, and other public resources. We are concerned that the costs of necessary upgrades and maintenance would fall on taxpayers and local residents.
### 2. Traffic and Public Safety
The proposed development would significantly increase traffic in and around Ellisboro. This additional traffic would create congestion, increase commute times, and place greater risk on local roads that may not be designed to handle such growth. Increased vehicle volume could also create safety concerns for residents, children, pedestrians, school buses, and emergency responders.
### 3. Environmental Impacts
The Dalton Farm property and surrounding area are valuable community and natural resources. Rezoning for this development could result in increased stormwater runoff, loss of open space, habitat disruption, and possible harm to local water quality. We are concerned that the environmental consequences of this development would negatively affect the rural character and ecological health of the area.
### 4. Conflict with County Economic Development Vision
This proposed development is not in harmony with the county’s economic development vision as outlined in the **North Carolina 2040 Vision Plan**. The county’s long-term planning goals emphasize thoughtful, sustainable growth that supports existing communities, preserves rural character, and encourages development that aligns with infrastructure capacity and community priorities. This rezoning request does not appear to reflect those goals.
For these reasons, we respectfully urge the County Commissioners to **deny the rezoning request for the Dalton Farm property** and to protect the long-term interests of Ellisboro and the surrounding county.
I live in this area nd we need more farms not more houses. We do not have the infrastructure to support that many homes. We aren't opposed to growth but we cant out grow our community we have to think about schools, ems, fire stations, traffic etc
