The Issue

The current hair and grooming regulations enforced at our school are overly restrictive and outdated. Students are regularly facing strict punitive measures—including exclusion from classes, forced cutting of hair, or being sent home—simply due to the length, style, or natural state of their hair.
We believe that a student's hair has no bearing on their academic performance, intelligence, or capability to learn. Punitive enforcement of these standards causes unnecessary emotional distress, damages confidence, and infringes on individual rights and cultural identity. According to human rights frameworks and national education acts, school policies must foster an environment of inclusion and respect rather than uniformity through suppression.

Our Request

We respectfully urge the school administration and governing body to:
1. Review and Update the Code of Conduct: Revise existing hair regulations to prioritize cleanliness, hygiene, and neatness over rigid restrictions on length or style.
2. Protect Cultural and Individual Identity: Formally allow neat, natural hair textures, protective styles (such as braids, locks, and twists), and natural-looking hairpieces without fear of reprimand.
3. End Punitive Actions: Stop the practice of sending students home or denying access to education based entirely on their hair.
4. Inclusive Dialogue: Involve student representatives and parents in the process of drafting a new, fair appearance standard.
