Decision Makers: Student Government Body/Association

We, the learners, parents, and supporters of our school, respectfully ask the school governing body and management to review and modernise the current hair policy.

The current rule banning hairpieces limits many learners who wish to wear neat, natural-looking protective hairstyles. Hairpieces help protect natural hair, make it easier to maintain hairstyles, and allow learners to feel confident while still looking neat and presentable.

We are not asking for extreme hairstyles, bright colours, or styles that distract from learning. We are simply requesting that the school allow neat, school-appropriate hairpieces that match a learner’s natural hair colour and comply with the school’s standards of cleanliness and professionalism.

We believe this change will create a more inclusive and fair environment while maintaining discipline and the school’s good image.

We respectfully ask the school to:

  • Review the current hair policy.
  • Allow neat, natural-looking hairpieces.
  • Permit protective hairstyles that meet the school’s appearance standards.
  • Consult learners and parents before making final decisions.

By signing this petition, you are supporting a fair, respectful, and modern hair policy for all learners.

The reason this is so important to me is that being allowed to braid our hair using hairpieces and extensions is a way for us to express ourselves. Hairpieces and extensions also help us keep our hairstyles neat for much longer than when we braid using only our natural hair. When we use only our natural hair, our hairstyles often become untidy within two weeks. Using hairpieces and extensions is not just about appearance—it is also about comfort and confidence. It allows us to feel comfortable i

I have messy hair and I am always late bcs I have to comb my hair so that I can look pretty, but with hairpiece I know I can just tie my hair and go to school looking gorgeous. Hairpiece brings confidence the learners in school and we know if you have confidence in your looks you are also confidence in your books and work .

I am signing this petition because, as Black students, our hair is an important part of our culture and identity. Policies that discourage or ban braids limit our ability to express ourselves culturally and proudly embrace who we are. These rules can also create insecurities about our natural Black hair by suggesting that it is somehow unacceptable. Let's be honest if we were white, hairstyles associated with our culture would likely not be treated as an issue. School policies should promote eq

Our hair shouldn't be a problem to our educators and our hair does not get in the way of education
