We would like Exeter school to consider allowing girls to have enhanced choice of how to wear their hair.

Currently the school restricts girls from wearing their hair down at all times. We feel we should have the freedom to choose. When students are required to wear it a certain way, without a clear reason, it sends the message that their comfort and choice do not matter. We believe that this rule unfairly discriminates against girls, taking away individuality and identity.
Exeter School used to allow girls to wear their hair half-up and half-down, but that rule was recently revoked restricting the freedom in appearance as a result.
Few workplaces would mandate how females should wear their hair, unless specifically for a health and safety reason. During the school day when it is considered unsafe, ie science and PE, hair can still be tied back.
We are petitioning to allow students the freedom to make their own simple decisions about how they present their hair, which we consider not to be an accessory, but a natural part of ourselves. We feel this rule is outdated and misogynistic. Allowing this basic right would align better to the independent behaviour that being a mature individual requires.

We ask Exeter school to urgently review this rule and make a fair change that respects girls’ choices.

Because it should be an option neither the less. Nits aren’t a prominent issue at out age so as long as hair is meet it should be acceptable
