Xeriscape Median Update

Our goal is to update the Tahquitz Canyon Way median to reflect both our need to conserve water and enhance the beauty of our major airport beoulevard leading to our downtown.
The 21st Century standard-bearer in the Coachella Valley is low maintenance, low waterand desert-tolerant landscaping. Our visitor comment on this. We fear that every time as we drive the twelve blocks to our downtown is having our cars washed by the sprinker spray.
Other valley cities have already made the needed changes to medians adding elegance while using less water and maintenance. We already enjoy the beautifil grass in our parks so the change will be a welcomed economic one.
The median already contains low water trees-palms and olives. Removing the grass, powering down the sprinklers to drips, planting low water greenery, cover with crushed rock and plan spacing for possible future sculputers installations might be budgeted using some Prop. 13 funding with payback from less water usage and maintenance.
We ask you, our elected Palm Springs City Council representaives to place this proposal on the earliest council agenda for consideration and planning.
