Broad Acres is currently a private 14 bed longterm care facility in Grand Forks, BC. It has been 6 years in the making by Rod Gustafson, an RN., who has pourred his heart and soul into this project. He recognized an urgent need for more longterm care beds in Grand Forks and surrounding area. Finally in the spring of 2010 he received his license and had the Grand Opening of Broad Acres. Unfortunately, not many can afford the cost of private nursing home, so it has sat empty for 7 months due to a lack of Government support towards any of the beds. In the mean time, our elderly population struggle in the community and hospital while waiting on the long wait list for a partially funded beds. It breaks my heart to have had such a beautiful facility sit empty when there is such need for it. It makes no sense to me. We would not be here if it weren't for our elders.  Many of them fought for the freedom we know today. We may all need a place to go some day. I encourage everyone of all ages to support our elderly population in a proactive way. It would be a shame to not have this in our community.
