Do You Feel that Havelock Belmont-Methuen urgently needs a LTC/ Nursing Home.
Please consider this…….
Ontario’s Action Plan for Health Care released January 2012 wants to provide “The right care, at the right time, in the right place” and “ensure that seniors receive the care they need as close to home as possible.”
The Parliamentary Committee on Palliative and Compassionate Care “Not to be Forgotten”, Care of Vulnerable Canadians states: “If there is a form of “two tiered” health care in Canada it would be the distinction between urban and rural areas in terms of health care delivery. Canada’s health policy has emphasized urban centres, attempting to adopt urban models of health care to rural health care delivery.”
It is time to hold our government accountable for the statements they have made to the taxpayers of this province.
Our seniors want the right care, at the right time, in the right place and as close to home as possible!!!!
When our seniors care becomes critical and they can no longer live with family, they cannot wait two years for admission to existing Long Term Care Homes in the area.
Local seniors who can no longer live alone and seniors whose families can no longer provide the necessary health care that may be needed are limited in choices and if beds are available have to move into LTC / Nursing Homes in Peterborough, Marmora and Tweed and further.
Relocating miles from home makes it very difficult for families to visit our seniors when they are in LTC / Nursing Homes which are out of our rural area. There are a number of contributing factors: the travel time of two to four hour return trip; the travel costs for gas or a transport service; and the poor travel weather during the winter months. Family contact is critical to the health and well being of these seniors who can become lonely and depressed.
If you would like to keep our seniors close to home, please sign this petition to build a nursing home in Havelock Belmont-Methuen to serve the seniors in this area.
The emails I receive from families forced to drive hours to visit their loved ones weigh on me every single day. I have been spending my nights chasing responses from local officials who seem perfectly content to ignore how far our seniors are being pushed from their homes.

Reaching this new level of support feels like a shift in the gravity of this situation. The work has been exhausting and long but seeing so many of you join this push reminds me why I started. We have a long road ahead and I am still here to see it through.
