On May 26, 2009, the state of Alabama's Board of Pardons and Parole will consider Holland Wilhite (AIS#121152) for parole. We urge the Board to reject this request and keep Mr. Wilhite in prison for the rest of his life.
On the morning of July 7, 1992, while going for her regular morning walk on the Memorial Park walking track in Jasper, Alabama, longtime resident Amanda Sanderson was brutally attacked by Mr. Wilhite. He came out of the bushes, brandishing a knife, and when she began screaming he choked her and cut her throat with his knife, leaving her for dead.
Mr. Wilhite was subsequently apprehended, convicted of attempted murder and other charges, and sentenced to life in prison. He is currently incarcerated at St. Clair Correctional Facility, and it is our earnest hope that he remains there for the rest of his natural life, as ordered by the court.
Even today, nearly 17 years after the attack, Amanda Sanderson suffers from nightmares of the attack and frequently wakes up screaming. She has been living in constant dread of Mr. Wilhite's release from prison; the park is just around the corner from her longtime home and she fears for her safety should Mr. Wilhite once again be free. The attack was completely unprovoked, and Mr. Wilhite has shown absolutely no remorse.
Please give this poor crime victim some peace of mind. Don't hurt her any more than she has already been hurt. Deny Holland Wilhite his petition for parole!
I have finalized the formal protest letter for the Board of Pardons and Parole. This document outlines the danger posed to Amanda Sanderson and argues against any change to the current sentencing terms.

Keep him in jail. He tried to kill someone and he should never see the light of day again. Simple as that.

That poor woman has suffered enough for 17 years. Keep him locked up where he belongs so she can finally feel safe in her own neighborhood again.
