In 2001, I was attacked in downtown Memphis while unloading groceries from my car. My attacker, Steve Bland, stabbed me 3 times and tried to force me into the car. Thankfully, I was able to get away. Within weeks of my attack, the Memphis Police Department apprehended my attacker and he was convicted. He received a 17.5 year sentence for his crimes.
Each year, Mr. Bland becomes eligible for parole and each year I petition his parole not be granted. On May 30, 2012, the Parole Board will hold his fifth parole hearing to discuss if he is deserving of parole.
One of the many opportunities available to me as the victim is to send a petition with the signature of others who are in agreement with me that Mr. Bland should not be granted parole. Steve Bland is a career criminal and deserves to serve all of his 17.5 years sentence.
Here is a small list of his prior convictions (And this isn't all of them!): Burglary III 5-11-87 Felony Escape 5-11-87 Poss Cont Sub 8-10-90 Disorderly Conduct 5-29-91 Violation of Probation 2-28-92 Failure to Appear 3-2-92 Theft of Property 3-2-92 Prostitution 11-3-94 Soliciting Rides 11-3-94 Burglary 3-10-95 Evading Arrest 12-3-96 Burglary 7-31-97 Soliciting Rides 5-18-98 Driving Susp Lic 8-5-98 Sale Controlled Sub 1-12-99 Sale Controlled Sub 1-12-99 Burglary/Assault 5-9-02
Steve Bland's next crime was the one in which I was victimized Aggravated Robbery 8-13-01 Aggravated Assault 8-13-01
You will notice that he was convicted of another crime after he was convicted of attacking me. Before the police caught him, he robbed another woman.
Please help keep Steve Bland, #0013181, in jail! Take a moment to sign this petition to deny the granting of parole to the man who so violently attacked me - Steve Bland.
Thank you so much for your help! Let's keep him in jail.
The parole board is watching these numbers and they need to see that we will not stay silent about this attacker. I am asking each of you to post this link to your social media right now so we can hit 250 signatures before the hearing.

Seeing this kind of support reminds me that I do not have to face the fear of this man returning to the streets alone. Your backing gives me the strength to keep fighting this battle year after year.

17.5 years clearly isnt enough for a habitual offender like this. The guy has a record a mile long.

He tried to take a life. He should serve every single day of that sentence and then some.

Parole for him is a joke. Look at that rap sheet... he is never going to change.
