As local residents, we are tired of being scared while seeing our kids crossing Ava Rd and Avenal Dr at Peveril Hill South! Though there is a stop sign at both intersections, we have repeatedly noted cars either drive or roll right through. On a regular basis, parked cars reduce visibility. Both intersections are near schools (one elementary and middle, one preschool). Ensuring the safety of children crossing these roads is of utmost importance, and can be achieved through a few changes:

• Speed bumps preceding and close to the stop signs on both Ava Rd and Avenal Dr
• Larger stop signs, with lights, and reflective material, on Ava Rd and Avenal Dr. (maintain two stop signs on both the south and north sides of Ava Rd and Avenal Dr)
• Renewed demarcation of the white stop lines on all sides of both intersections as these have significantly faded. Paint the words "STOP" on the road, and / or painting white lines to signify a pedestrian crossing area
• Ensure a school zone sign is placed on Avenal Dr, east of Peveril Hill South, visible to those entering off of Bathurst St.
• Place school zone signs on both Avenal Dr and Ava Rd
• Place "Your speed is" radars on both Avenal Dr and Ava Rd
• Do not allow parking within 9 m of the stop sign on Ava Rd. (currently it is allowed)
• Ensure a 'no parking' sign is placed 9 m from the stop signs on Ava Rd and Avenal Dr
• Remove parking currently available on the south side of Avenal Dr. where it intersects with Peveril Hill South. Remove parking currently available on the north side of Avenal Dr., just west of Peveril Hill South.
• Conduct a safety assessment of the Avenal Dr and Peveril Hill S intersection, which involves a prematurely ending sidewalk on the east side of Peveril, resulting in a blind spot for pedestrians and drivers alike, and follow related recommendations. (This may include shifting the stop sign and related indicators on Avenal Dr. 1.5 m west, and 1.5 m south on Peveril Hill S., or extension of the existing sidewalk)
• Enforce the no parking signage on the east side of Peveril Hill South regardless of events being held at the synagogues nearby (this is based on an agreement previously reached by members of the synagogues, police, and our residents)
• Addition of a municipal "LEFT TURN ONLY" sign, on the north side of Avenal Dr., just west of Peveril Hill South

We need these changes to be made before it is too late and an accident happens, or worse, a young life is lost!
