On Mount Pleasant north of Lawrence, drivers are using the street as a speedier alternative to Yonge street. Mount Pleasant has stops signs every other block. There have been too many near incidents with drivers speeding along and not waiting for pedestrian traffic to cross. Rolling stops are common, as the next intersection doesn’t have stop signs. Our councillor continues to defer concerns to the city’s traffic department, who in turn specify no additional stop signs or stop lights are required because they will slow traffic flow. This is our neighbourhood, with our children our crossing streets. Safety need to be a priority, not optimal traffic flow. Without additional stop signs and lights on Mount Pleasant, we are tempting fate. Let’s not wait until someone gets killed before we demand action! Please take a moment and sign this petition
