As you know, Hout Bay International School is located to the left of Main Road, at the intersection of Payne Street and BP Garage. The safety of our children is at risk, especially during arrival at 8:00 am and dismissal at 4:00 PM, largely due to the disregard for safe speed limits by motorists travelling along Main Road and Payne Street. I, along with others, have regularly witnessed vehicles travelling far in excess of the 60 mile per hour speed limit. Additionally, parents have expressed concern for the safety of their children who must cross the streets when walking to and from school.
This poses a great danger to the residents and children who live here. We have to be very careful when using these roads. I want to request The City of Cape Town to build some speed-bumps along the road to slow down these speeding cars and motorcycles. We believe you’ll identify with our fear of accidents involving not only our children but us the inhabitants, visiting guests and our “four legged” family. Speed plays its role having caused quite unnecessary loss of life and heartache.This is a matter of utmost urgency. I have submitted a formal request for a traffic assessment to the City of Cape Town Department of Transport. My next task is to compile the signature list as an attachment to our formal proposal for speed bump installation.

Speed bumps on Payne would be a great start. However, it would also be very useful to install speed bumps or some kind of speed reduction structure in the turning lanes at the lights (on to Payne and into the school property)? These lanes are used too frequently by speeding cars to jump the queues.
Please let these speed bumps happen. People drive too fast down Payne St without stopping at the stop streets with complete disregard for anyone else's safety.

Speed bumps are the only way of managing the speed of the vehicles on the downhill stretch
Oh please.. Let us have speed bumps.. Payne street and that intersection is a nasty accident waiting to happen.. Too many people ignoring the stop signs..

Speed bumps on Payne street a must. Some enforcement measures need to be taken at the bottom of Payne as well. Barriers? Traffic circle? Something that eases flow of traffic and compensates for the complete ignoring of road rules.
