I was just rereading the piece in the Downbeach current and honestly the thought of losing our local dispatchers makes me feel sick because those folks stayed through the worst of Sandy while the rest of us were scrambling. I keep emailing the boro offices and while I wait for a real answer I have been trying to make sure everyone understands that outsourcing our 911 service is about way more than just saving a few pennies.

Keep dispatch in Longport. The minute you outsource your residents will lose their "personalized service" and your employees (police, fire, EMS) will not be the priority and will feel like "the red headed step children" .... I know, I lived it......
Hey Longport politicians, don't make the same mistake countless other towns made by getting rid of your dispatch, it doesn't save any money and your loyal dispatchers will not be picked up by that town, you will not receive special treatment because you are Longport and those new dispatchers will not care if your neighbors car is parked to close to your rose bushes.
I grew up in Brigantine And Currently reside in Absecon. I never lived in Longport but this seems like a very good cause. I support my local PD and their dispatchers and here's my way of supporting you guy's. You've got my signature! I Wish ya's all the best ! Keep up the Great Work!! Regards, James Premet
Nobody knows your town better than those who have been working there for so many years. Ask other citizens in cities that have consolidated. The level of service cannot be the same.
For the record, my previous post was not meant as a personal attack on EHT communications at all. They are a very professional group of people who do care about doing their jobs. I know my post "ruffled some feathers" and I totally understand and I sincerely apologize to the entire EHT communications department. Yes, I could have worded things a lot better. I just feel that each town should have their own individual communications centers. This was they can provide a more personalized service to the community in which they serve and only have to worry about their own units. When you go to an agency that dispatches for several agencies, with only a few dispatchers, things have to take priority and you may have to be put on the back burner for a bit, which does get frustrating because if you were still within your own entity, this would not necessarily be the case. When my department consolidated, the dispatchers took on more work and responsibility with no increase in manpower or salary. Which to me is wrong! Most dealt with it okay. but a few didn't and you could tell this by their tone of voice over the radio. Kind of making it feel as if it was personally our faults.... When we had nothing to do with it. Politicians need to stop cutting back on public safety and put more into it. Keep every department its own and stop fiddlefucking around with a county communications center. It not as cost effective and efficient as you think, but what do they know, they probably never worked a day in a communications center. LONGPORT DO NOT CONSOLIDATE!

No one knows that town and its people than local dispatchers. It never ceases to amaze me politicians are willing to cut the heart of the community out to save a few dollars. Keep your dispatchers, it is worth it.
