The company reversed the decision and is now honoring our seniority language. We won because we stood together. Keep watching.

As Kaiser Permanente employees and UFCW Local 7 members we believe Kaiser Permanente needs to adhere to the labor contract that we and our fellow Local 7 members have fought hard for. One of these basic agreements relates to how the company administers a reduction in staff during a reorganization or job elimination. We have recently been made aware of a situation where a senior RN with a part-time FTE has been targeted. We disagree strongly with the company’s actions in this situation, and we implore the company to work with the Union and to honor contract language that has been a basic feature of our relationship. This company states that it wants an engaged workforce. These actions do not engage the workforce. We are willing to take further protected, concerted actions to protect our contract.

Management remains silent but we are busy organizing our next steps with the union. Your stories confirm this is a wider pattern than just one position.

The momentum is shifting. Management cannot ignore us now.

I am an on-call employee with 28 years at KP, so I can easily see myself in a similar situation and would hope that my colleagues would support me.

The company needs to honor the contract language! However, I wanted to add that I have concerns regarding managers who are confused about the contract language when hiring new employees. I am not certain the most Senior member who has the "ACTUAL" experience in a specific area are getting the jobs. I think some managers are hiring employees who they like or who they think will be easier to manage. That is not how it works!

what seems to be happening is a knee jerk reaction. To the company..take a moment and this can be solved in partnership. Doing this otherwise can result in ageism lawsuits, and certainly against the company's philosophy to be a company that supports work-life balance. You cannot practice that just when it is conveor you. With respect.

KP needs to honor our senior employees who have years of experience and knowledge. Let's keep the bar high and keep raising the bar for excellent care within Kaiser.

Although I also don't always agree with the process of adhering strictly to seniority for decisions making, it is what we agreed upon in the contract. If we begin subjectively obeying the contract where will it end?

Senority and position are the reason this organization has the best the work force has to offer. The contract is to be honored otherwise the organization has lost its integrity.
