How did this pass without a TRIAL PERIOD like everything else that has such a large impact on how we operate...
This petition is not against the clean cab concept, but how it is being implemented. Old engines should be retrofitted for a trial period before the purchase of a new fire engine.

I have spent the last few shifts talking with crews about how these exterior compartments actually affect our response times. Seeing them struggle with stored gear confirms that we need a proper trial period before any more of these engines are purchased.

Seeing this level of support confirms that I am not the only one worried about our safety during a fire. This momentum proves that those of us on the front lines deserve a real trial before our equipment is changed for good.

Clean cab concept will fundamentally impact our operations, response readiness, ability to perform our duties upon our arrival on scene, and the health and safety of fireman and more importantly the public we swore an oath to protect. - Tony Quintela
With rubberized SCBAs and washers and a second set of turnouts easily accessible the cab would remain clean. It may be a 1:million chance to make a save on arrival, but that is what we prepare for, not the general.
Anyone willing to throw out comments like “it’s only 10 more, 20 more, 30 more, etc. seconds to put your pack on...” I’ll ask you this.... if you’re child was drowning in a pool how long would you be comfortable standing at the edge of the pool and watching and doing nothing? 10 seconds? 20 seconds? We know that most civilian fatalities are a result of toxic inhalation. Things don’t start getting better until the victim is out of the building getting treated. Your child is not getting better until they are out of the pool. 15 seconds? 30 seconds? What are you ok with? Because that’s what we’re asking the public to be ok with when we start adding time to our operations. Let me be a little less dramatic. If your recruits are told the minimum time to stretch a line and be masked up was 90 secs how would you handle it if they were 10 sec, 20 sec or 30 seconds slower? Would they stil pass your academy? After all it’s “only 10 more seconds”. In a time when the fire service likes to throw around numbers about how fast we reach flashover and how lightweight materials degrade so much faster why are we settling for slower operational times based on incomplete or nonexistent data? Reducing cancer in the fire service is an important pursuit, but this approach reeks of both the knee jerk reaction and normalization of deviance... two existing issues that are already plaguing the fire service.

I disagree with clean cab concept. I believe there are better was to handle contaminated air packs such as proper decontamination on scene.
