I feel as though the length of the current spandex worn by Caledonia (and other) high school volleyball players is creating an image and an opportunity for the ladies to show off their bodies in a negative way. A high school court is not the proper venue to display body parts that should stay covered. SHORT spandex pants are not necessary for them to wear to play well and certainly wouldn't be acceptable to wear in the hallways of the high school. Caledonia speaks of it's pride of Character and Climate. How is the displaying of the rounded bottoms of our young women portraying this? Coaches, parents, and administration should support the idea that respect for oneself shows self-control and self-worth. Let's make it mandatory to wear at least 3 inch inseam spandex. Pull them down to full length when playing or be asked to leave the court.

I have been reading through the honest reflections many of you left here and I am truly humbled by the shared concern for our students. This conversation is moving much faster than I ever anticipated because you all chose to speak up about a standard we should be setting together. I am currently working on reaching out to a few people in the administration to see if we can finally bring these thoughts to the table.

I agree...we used to wear the longer spandex UNDER our regular shorts in track and cross country.
I think the volleyball shorts are way too short. They send the wrong message to girls. Also if the men's professional volleyball players can wear longer shorts so can women and that includes high school
I agree! My daughter plays volleyball and I'm tired of seeing all the butt cheeks! Those shorts can't be comfortable - the girls spend most of their time pulling them down!
I agree, keep those bottoms covered! They certainly wouldn't allow those short shorts to be worn during the school day so why allow them for after school activities?
Totally agree. Thank you for supporting this effort! I have been turned away by the coaches and administration. I'm taking this petition to the board next.

Why are we so willing to sell our girls short. Women deserve respect for all that they do and displaying our bodies does not demand respect.
