In any other subject, parents would be outraged that teachers were spreading misinformation. Why should sex education be any different?

Abstinence only programs do nothing. We need comprehensive sex education; this results in smarter choices, lowered teen pregnancy rates, and a decrease in STI's. Sexual Education IS public health, therefore it should be taught in highschools.

Equality! As a product of Bearden's completely ineffective educational system(at least for myself), I realize that this only worked for a small percentage of people who were already scared Christians to start with. However, teenagers especially need to know everything there is about STD's but they are going to tune everyone out who is going to tell them what to do. DO NOT tell an angsty teenager what to do if you expect positive results. Period.

We have this at my school too. Many teenagers don't even know basic facts about birth control because we aren't taught. We are instead taught that having sex before marriage decreases our worth as individuals.

This is completely ridiculous. Things of this nature should not be allowed in our schools. School and Church are two things which should not be put together

Not to mention the slut shaming, sexist take on sex they teach and their open views on abortion.

It's a very smart approach, those who restrict often find that youth will do it anyhow.. why not teach the how to do it safe and proper. over 80% of teens have sex atleast once, let's amke it safe and proper

As a citizen of this Country I understand the importance of separation of church and state, but as a student who has gone those very sex ed talks that were presented by the Just Wait program I can tell you that never once did they mention Jesus or their religious beliefs, while yes I do remember them stressing that waiting for marriage was the best way to avoid an unwanted pregnancy or STD. I am not saying that the Just Wait program is totally perfect, because like anything created by humans it definitely has its flaws, but to say that the BEST way to prevent teen pregnancy and the spread of STDs is to teach tell them it's okay as long as they "do it safely" is honestly a very unwise approach. As a Christ follower I know that not everyone believes or practices the things that do and that is okay as long as you stay true to yourself. I don't think that anyone's personal beliefs or religion should be force fed to anyone, however I do believe that students should be learning the whole truth about such topics as sex, drinking alcohol, and doing drugs. We should learn that while not all of those activities are necessarily bad things, however that doing those things come with serious responsibilities and consequences which can lead to poor decision making later on down the road. I personally wish that they would spend more time talking about the psychological side of sex and just physical contact within itself, because it is just as much of an emotional experience as it is a physical if not even more so emotional and that has actually been proven by science. The fact is that regardless of your personal beliefs or religion, sex is a big deal for both of the people involved and should be held to a much higher standard and respected much more than it is in today's society.
