The school board has officially voted to maintain the current name of Thomas Jefferson High School. This outcome honors the decades of history built by our graduates and confirms the value of the legacy we defended together. I appreciate the thoughtful commitment shown by everyone who participated in this process.

We the People from former graduating classes are asking that the name of Thomas Jefferson High School (Auburn, WA) remain as is. Thomas Jefferson High School was founded in 1968 and since that time it has become one of the largest high schools in the state of Washington.
Others say that the name Thomas Jefferson represents white supremacy and other things because of Thomas Jefferson's legacy. To put it simply Thomas Jefferson was a man that did many good things for the United States. Some of those good things include:
- Wrote the Declaration of Independence
- Third President of the United States
- Major role in creating Library of Congress and donated his own personal library to start it.
Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence in 1776. He was the third president of the United States. He served for two terms during which time he successfully doubled the size of the United States. Thomas Jefferson has a major role in creating the Library of Congress because he believed in the power of education and went as far as to donate his own personal library in 1814 when the Library of Congress was damaged in the war.
Lastly, Thomas Jefferson was a man of diversity with interest not only in education, but technology, architecture, horticulture, science, languages and the law. He was a man with many interests and valued education and learning. It is for these and many others that we the "Mighty, Mighty, Raiders" from years gone by are signing this petition.

Every one has a past. There's a skeleton in all of our closets. Changing a name does not change those facts. Thomas Jefferson adorns our school because of the accomplishments. ~Isaac Miller Senior Class President, 1996 Equality Club founding member
I will be attending the new school next year and during middle school and elementary I did track practice and choir performance since elementary. This is a landmark and I do not think the name should be changed!
He was a president of the United States and part of history, that needs to be remembered and changing his name would be foolish and money I'll spent. if you want to spend excess money give it to the kids programs
As an alum, I do not wish to see the name changed. Thomas Jefferson did great things for this country. But, even if you do not take that in to account, you would leave countless thousands of graduates without an Alma matter. Keep the name!!!
As a member of the 10th Graduating Class at Thomas Jefferson Sr. High school, I believe a Name Change is Completely ridiculous considering the Historical Achievements of the Great Man my School was named after. I’m Proud to be a graduate of T.J. Always will be.
Please see the respect & love we have for our school. Don't let it be another statistic which millennials have made created, regarding our country's history, [whether it be good or bad] and their input has done its best to irradicate things they get their "feelings" hurt about. We know and understand those things which made up Thomas Jefferson and are willing to fight for that name to remain on our school, and our history!!!
They already changed the name of Totem where I went to junior high. Don't let it happen to TJ!!

Class of 1977. No man or woman is perfect. Thomas Jefferson's words ("all men are created equal", for example) have inspired anti-racism campaigns around the world. We should learn from his words and actions (good and bad)--rather than forgetting them.
