Prince William County, Virginia's Stonewall Jackson Middle and High School's student bodies are very diverse in racial and cultural make up, a diversity Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson vehemently opposed as an owner of enslaved Africans. It is detrimental to the self-esteem of children of African descent, and to the social and cultural development of all young people to have to attend a school celebrating the life and legacy of a known racist. Let us band together to eradicate an injustice that has stood too long by signing this pettion to have "Stonewall" Jackson Middle and High Schools renamed.

The stories shared in the comments reveal how much these names continue to shape the daily experience of students in our community. I am currently reaching out to local representatives to ensure they understand the weight of these perspectives. We remain focused on the necessity of cultivating an environment that truly welcomes every student.

Seeing this collective push for change gain such steady momentum confirms that our community values inclusion over historical tradition. This growth serves as a powerful reminder that we are united in the belief that our schools should reflect the dignity of every student.

My kids go to these schools and they deserve better than to walk into a building named after a slave owner. Do the right thing.

It is LONG overdue to stop celebrating those who betrayed our nation to protect genocide & the horrors of slavery.

I totally agree with the sentiment. All symbols and reminders of oppression, in any form, must be done away with!
