The Shores HOA in Longmont, CO currently restricts short-term rentals in the community. This rule has caused some undue hardship to some homeowners as they use platforms like Airbnb to rent rooms in their homes for supplemental income. This rule restricts the freedom of homeowners to gain the full value of their home without causing undo inconvenience or harm to their neighbors. The homeowners kindly request that the board cease any fines for current members that have short-term rental income and send out a notification via email or letter for a vote to be taken on this issue.

My only concern about Airbnb is when people buy second homes exclusively to rent them out to short term renters which drives home prices out of reach of many would-be homeowners. Homeowners renting all or part of their primary residence is perfectly fine with me, though. (And please note, the word you mean is “undue,” not “undo.”)

Homeowners can write/ vote on rules. The can be written to restrict using homes exclusively for Airbnb- that homeowner must reside in the home etc.

As neighbors of Kathy Nelson and her airbnb, our experience has been nothing but positive. We still enjoy the quiet and undisturbed ambiance of our quadrangle of 6 homes.
