We as home owners find it a basic right to decide to whom and for how long we rent to perspective tenants. We decide through many different avenues including but not limited to, back ground checks, social media sites, short term rental groups, west side rentals, friends of friends, references, career choices, income brackets, people with similar interests and any source that preserves the safety and spirit of our home and community. We ask that our community rallies to protect these rights. We ask that you stand in solidarity with your community to allow us to bring great temporary or long term residents to our community who have the finances to not just pay us rent but who are able to spend and invest at our local shops, boutiques and businesses. There are only pros when it comes to deciding to sign this petition. A. Increased revenue to the state due to the added 14% tax on short term rentals. B. Increased property values due to the home owners receiving enough income to maintain, add on and beautify their properties. C. Introducing Silver Lake to the world at Large so it becomes a destination to rival Hollywood, Downtown and the beach communities. D. Tourism dollars E. Attention from surrounding larger communities to inspire them to spend money on safety lights, crosswalks and police and fire in our neighborhood due to demand. F. Preserve the basic American freedom and right to chose what you do with your personal property. G. All of the short term rental agencies not only have strict guide lines, background checks, social media links, a $1,000,000 insurance policy, tenant reviews, a forum for landlords to cross check references and past rental history, but these companies auto cancel a persons membership if the renter has one negative infraction. H. Short term renters are vetted/scrutinized more thoroughly than long term renters so neighbors can rest assured they, their children, pets and property are safe.

Seeing this kind of movement in Silver Lake is deeply personal for me because I truly believe in our right to shape the future of our own properties. Reading your stories about why you want to protect our neighborhood is what keeps me going every single day.

LOVE meeting people from all over the world who stay in my guest unit. They spend money at the local coffee shops and diners. Its good for everyone here.

It is my house i should get to decide who stays there. Stop trying to control what we do with our own homes.

My property my rules. Renting out my spare room helps pay the mortgage especially when things get tight.

Silver Lake is getting way too expensive. We need this income just to stay in our homes!

This is America right? I pay taxes on the income I make from my rental so let me operate in peace.

Ridiculous how the city wants to overregulate everything. The extra income helps keep my place looking nice instead of falling apart like some of the neighbors houses.
