Date: March 11, 2026Petition to the Dauphin Island, Alabama Town Council

Subject: Formal Opposition to Proposed Amendment to Ordinance 105

To the Members of the Town of Dauphin Island, Town Council

We, the undersigned residents and property owners of the DeSoto Landing neighborhood, write to formally express our strong opposition to the proposed amendment to ordinance 105 to place a Short Term Rental moratorium and a limit on the number of Short Term Rentals in DeSoto Landing subdivision.

We believe this specific amendment will negatively impact the 87 property owners of DeSoto Landing.

The DeSoto Landing Covenants and Restrictions allow short term rentals with a 7 night minimum term to all property owners.

A small minority of owners have requested the Dauphin Island Town Council to bypass the covenants and restrictions.

The undersigned property owners are against this proposed action by the Town of Dauphin Island Town Council.

So if the town can just change the rules whenever they feel like it what is the point of having covenants in the first place? This is setting a really bad precedent for the whole island.

We followed all the procedures when we bought here. Don't punish the people who play by the rules just to appease a handful of neighbors who want to dictate everything.

This is my investment property. I depend on that income to pay the high taxes and upkeep. Stop trying to tell us what to do with our own homes.

Ridiculous to mess with our property rights like this. We bought these homes knowing the rules and now the council wants to change them just because a few people are unhappy. Leave us alone.

The town council has zero business overriding our neighborhood covenants. Stick to the laws already in place and stop catering to a noisy minority.
