Date: March 11, 2026Petition to the Dauphin Island, Alabama Town Council
Subject: Formal Opposition to Proposed Amendment to Ordinance 105
To the Members of the Town of Dauphin Island, Town Council
We, the undersigned residents and property owners of the DeSoto Landing neighborhood, write to formally express our strong opposition to the proposed amendment to ordinance 105 to place a Short Term Rental moratorium and a limit on the number of Short Term Rentals in DeSoto Landing subdivision.
We believe this specific amendment will negatively impact the 87 property owners of DeSoto Landing.
The DeSoto Landing Covenants and Restrictions allow short term rentals with a 7 night minimum term to all property owners.
A small minority of owners have requested the Dauphin Island Town Council to bypass the covenants and restrictions.
The undersigned property owners are against this proposed action by the Town of Dauphin Island Town Council.
So if the town can just change the rules whenever they feel like it what is the point of having covenants in the first place? This is setting a really bad precedent for the whole island.
