We the undersigned are Friends of the Bud Billiken Parade and have deep concerns about the production of the parade. The changes made to the parade DOES NOT reflect a concern for the community it serves. We require for certain, a Bud Billiken Parade that reflects the statement below.
The Bud Billiken Parade requires 4-6 hours to fulfill its mission of providing a joyous celebration of our youth, herald the return to school and the importance of education.
To provide safe and attractive accommodations for families to hold reunions, picnics, and gatherings of friends to celebrate and support the Black Families. This parade reflects generations of tradition, pride, commitment, excitement, support, socioeconomic unity, extreme education marketing and love.
Allow the units opportunities to stop and perform at critical points i.e., 41-42 street, 47th Street, and the Reviewing Stand Area Performing Units need adequate time to perform their routines where they are being judged.
Compromise with the South Shore Drill and return them to the parade.
Compromise with our activists and community organizations to march in the parade
Chicago Police Department must treat our parade attendees with civility.
Charities Board must act as a faithful steward of the people's parade. We have no confidence in the current leadership.
One representative from FOBB to attend all parade planning meetings with authority to weigh in on sensitive matters that will affect the community

The changes made were definitely felt because you didn't see the variety of out-of-town groups that came afar to be a part of our home parade, nor was the units allowed to display their talent for the spectators w/o being asked to move along...
This years parade was very dissapointing. I as a mother walked the parade route with Danceforce and the team was not allowed to stop and perform for the crowd. They were rushed and hurried along by the rude parade staff. The children were very sad because of all their hard work went to waste by not bring able to give the parade goers a great show!!
I've been attending this parade for 30 years. This is my family tradition and this parade was ridiculous. How dare they strip this from our community. Just to add some individuals come to the parade to see south shore drill team
This year's parade was pure disappointment... I've been attending since i was a child and it used to be the highlight of the summer which is why i continued our family tradition of taking my kids...this year's was super short and only walking and waving...no performances and the south shore drill team were severely missed... I hope they get it together for next year
The Bud Billiken is one of the few opportunities today's children in Chicago get to experience the true meaning of community that many of us grew up with and honestly take for granted.
Youth based band from the Bahamas would love to take part in this event
The how is to make it so UN ENJOYABLE that it can be ELIMINATED all together. The DEMOGRAPHIC of that area is changing...... More whites, less blacks

I am very disappointed that the South Shore Drill team was not in the parade. If politicians are in the parade they should be sponsors of a youth group.
