Petition for a Clean Community

This petition can be signed by any resident of Orange County NC who is 18 or older.
Background
Orange County plans to add a new property tax fee for solid waste convenience centers without restoring the hours which were cut in 2009. The fee is the third solid waste fee and will be $40 for county residents; $20 for town residents. As part of the plan, the county will spend nearly $3 million to pave the centers, add dump ramps, and add compactors - which won't help the crowds, congestion and illegal dumping that occured when hours were cut
Orange County property taxes are already among the highest in the state, and citizens expect the county to commit scarce funds to schools, rural fire departments, economic development or other priorities. The new fee can only be used for trash and recycling -but is unrelated to remediation for the Rogers Road Community.
The petition asks the county to abandon plans for a new solid waste fee and spending on paving and compactors, and instead reinstate hours at all five convenience centers now.
Petition
We, the undersigned, petition the Board of County Commissioners to pass a resolution which will:
1. Oppose any new property tax fees for Solid Waste Convenience Centers for five years.
2. Oppose spending on trash compactors, dump ramps, and paving to the Convenience Centers for at least 3 years.
3. Immediately expand hours at Convenience Centers: (1) reinstate 6 day per week schedules at the Eubanks Road and Walnut Grove, and (2) add Sunday hours of 1:00 to 6:00 PM at the other 3 centers
