In the December 14, 2017, edition of the Eatonton Messenger, an article describing changes to the trash policy for Putnam County was published.

https://www.msgr.com/articles/2017/12/20/putnam-wa...

Quietly, over the holidays, a meeting was planned to discuss this plan. This meeting will be held Friday, January 5, 2018, at the Putnam Administration Building, 117 Putnam Drive, Suite A Room 203, 9 AM.

This plan will be disastrous for full and part time residents alike. In addition to being more costly, it will result in more litter on the side of the road as well as curbies on the side of the road for extensive periods of time. Pushing full containers to the road will create a hardship for citizens. Part timers will have to leave their garbage on the side of the road from the time they leave the area until they return to Putnam County. Garbage that will not fit will have to be delivered to the designated convenience center by the citizens, who will be charged an extra fee. Part timers will pay for service that they only use sporadically.

If the garbage company would like to change the current arrangement, the county should put the service out to a bid. At a minimum, more citizen input should be solicited and considered.

Please attend this meeting, if at all possible! Also, please sign this petition, if you agree this needs more discussion.

I have been hearing from so many of you about the trash situation and it is honestly wild how little they think the residents care about the roads. The phone lines at the admin office have been busy all morning which is exactly what we need right now because they really expected everyone to be asleep during the holidays.

We are crawling toward that 250 mark and honestly the momentum feels a bit sluggish so please grab a few neighbors and ping them the link right now because those officials need to see a real crowd behind this. I am sitting here staring at the screen and just thinking about all those trash cans sitting on the curb and it makes my head spin but maybe if we hit our target today they will actually listen for once.

We are crawling toward that first hundred and honestly it feels like people are finally starting to notice the mess they want to dump on us. If everyone could just grab a neighbor or maybe shoot a quick message to someone who has been complaining about this trash policy that would really get the ball rolling since the administration is clearly hoping we just go away quietly.

Our garbage system is the best in the area. The ~$216 annual fee is something us old folks don't want or need. The citizens of neighboring counties which have gone with pickup regret it. Learn from their mistakes.

Closing of the convenience stations will negatively impact all part time, high taxed, lakefront properties owners. There is no way curbside will be collecting on Sunday evenings & garbage cans will be left to turn over or blow open trashing the roads

Convenience centers keep trash out of yards & less litter on sides of road! No smells or maggots in garbage containers during summer heat temps, not to mention the convenience of taking Everything junk to one location! Please leave centers open!!!

What services are you going to offer the residents that are elderly and disabled? Residents that are not able to get a trashcan full of trash to the "curbside"? We all don't have short driveways, paved driveways, level driveways, sidewalks, etc.

Curbside trash pick up is not a good idea at all. Many people have very long driveways and the cans will just sit at the end of the driveway creating an eyesore and a temptation for animals like dogs, coyotes and raccoons to litter the roadsides.

I own lake property and it is a part time residence. I don't want to have to pay for a service that will be a part time service and be charge as much as everyone else. Sometimes I go months with out going to the lake.

Don't close the convenience centers.

I really hope the convenience centers aren't closed. Please reconsider. I believe closing them would be a mistake, considering the number of part-time residents.
