Dear Commissioners:
I understand that you are considering amending the Beach Chair Ordinance to better serve the Town. As a resident in Surfside, I can say from experience that the current Beach Chair Ordinance has proved to be difficult to operate under.
The extremely limited Pre-Set requirement is particularly burdensome. It should be eliminated. It allows for a very limited number of chairs to be set up in advance which results in numerous back and forth transport of beach chairs by employees in the extreme heat, unnecessary traffic along the Hardpack, and damage to the beach from taking the carts back and forth vs once in the morning and once in the evening. The reality is that no building is going to pre-set more than they anticipate for daily usage.
In addition, the limitation on total beach chairs is unreasonable for peak days such as Holidays. This also should be eliminated. The ordinance designates an area in front of our building where beach chairs can be placed.
Thank you for considering our perspective as you consider amending the Beach Chair Ordinance.

The pre set number of chairs needs to be increased. Also the amount of chairs and the afternoon time to put away the chairs during daylight savings time.
Unreasonable rule, only adds cost, damages the path and creates unnecessary risks for employees and people using the path. Hotels dont abide by this rule. Instead of creating bad rules like this one, please enforce good ones like no huge tents, loud speakers and alcohol coolers
These regulations have been nothing more that “one up’s a ship” by various past commissioners to “gin” up their votes. They are expensive to implement, crazy on the beach personnel, and accomplish little because there is so much beach available in any event. There are whole tent cities erected on the beach by the general public. This ordinance is a solution looking for a problem that is really making one on its own
The restrictions on the beach chairs are ridiculous. In the 15 years we have lived at the Azure there has never been a problem and the public has always been able to share the beach.
This has been a true burden and inconvenience for most importantly the residents and families with small children that reside on the properties that are on the actual beach including our elderly community who have to stand under the hot sun sometimes more than 98F for a certain period of time approx. 20 mins while the furniture is moved to the designated space and set up.
This rule is not only unreasonable but it is unjust. Please reconsider. Thanks!!!
Please consider amending the Ordinance to ease the burden on ocean front condominiums and hotels seeking to enjoy the beach.

The present ordinance does not do Justice to the need for hotels in Surfside to be able to serve their guests. Private condos continue to have the freedom to use chairs or not for their residents and are not affected by hotel policy. But oceanfront hotels certainly deserve to serve their guests appropriately and one of those services is the provision of sufficient chairs to their guests.
