Dear
Mayor and Commissioners,
On
Tuesday August 9th you will be voting on a new ordinance relating
to beach chairs. This topic is very important to The Surf Club
Community.
We believe the
current ordinance is both unfair and unreasonable. For example,
neighboring buildings with 100 feet of beach front have a pre-set limit
of 5 unoccupied chairs. The Surf Club, which has
approximately 900 feet of beach front (9x larger), is restricted
to a pre-set limit of only 15 unoccupied chairs.
For this reason, we believe it to be unfairly applied.
The
preset limitation also presents an unreasonable logistic
issue, forcing the staff to scramble and carry chairs several hundred
feet on demand when groups of people arrive. There is a large
cost incurred in bringing chairs to the beach. Thus, we have no
incentive to preset any more chairs than necessary for
a given day’s use. In addition, we request permission to
cautiously use an electric cart to transport the chairs on the hard pack, which
would alleviate some of the unwarranted stress on beach employees.
The
Surf Club Community supported the Commission during the election with this
issue in mind, and we hope to have it resolved.
Please
help us.
Your rule on chairs on the beach causes us a lot of extra expenses and complications at the SurfClub .
