The Problem:
The Elementary education licensure requires a lot of credit hours and the program is difficult to complete in 4 years.
If you want an endorsement in TESL or SPED this adds even more to your credit hour requirements and you have to take summer classes and 15+ credit hours to finish in 4 years.
The Solution:
Current Concentrations
English
Math
Science
Social Studies
Psychology
If we are allowed to use TESL or SPED endorsements as a concentration area, this removes the overwhelming credit requirements and makes a 4-year plan possible.
Why Now & Why Students
This option used to be available, but the new elementary licensure program removed these choices.
SPED and TESL are in high demand and make teachers more marketable
Others universities still offer this option.
As students, we have a voice when we feel a program will disrupt our education. WE NEED TO USE THAT OPTION NOW!
I have been reviewing the feedback regarding the current credit hour requirements for our licensure program. Many of you have shared personal accounts of the logistical strain caused by the removal of TESL and SPED as concentration options. I am currently preparing a formal proposal to address these concerns with the department leadership.

The momentum behind this request confirms that our current path toward licensure requires a necessary adjustment. It is encouraging to see so many peers acknowledge the practical benefits of integrating these endorsements into our degree plans.

makes total sense to count SPED as a concentration. its what we actually need to be prepared for the classroom anyway. let us graduate on time.

this is exactly what we need. 18 credits a semester is killing us, how are we supposed to actually learn anything when we are just trying to survive the workload.

i wanted to do TESL but the credit load was just insane. it should be an automatic option for elementary majors.
