Nipissing University has stated that while they have tried to secure placements for all their students they have to prepare for the event that it is not possible (From PT Office email on January 29).
Nipissing has created the Alternative Practicum Modules which will have 9 modules on Blackboard for students to complete asynchronously should they not be able to secure them a placement.
This will allow those students to supply freely on the temporary certificate and complete their modules on their own time. This will create a huge inequity for students who have placements and their supply opportunities are limited to one school (unless they get an LTO in the same board).
Nipissing MUST treat their students fairly and equitably. Allowing a subsection of students to seek gainful employment and experience while others are completing unpaid placements is wrong and unjust.
Make your voice heard. Sign this petition if you want to demand Nipissing treat their students equally and allow students who have employment opportunities to opt into the Asynchronous Alternative Practicum Modules.

I just woke up and checked the screen because I honestly had no clue this would take off like it did (my coffee is cold now but who cares) and it really shows that everyone is feeling the same frustration about these modules. It is just so wild to see this level of momentum building up so fast because it proves we are not just shouting into the void about this inequity.

Nipissing always says they want to best opportunities for their students and want to give them the best chance of getting jobs in our chosen fields, so let us get our foot in the door and get meaningful jobs in teaching.
For school and program that place is so much importance on being equitable to our future students this blows my mind. I understand these are extenuating circumstances however it’s also extenuating circumstances for us as well. Practice what you preach a Nipissing
i feel that the option should be given to students now that new options have been opened up.
Let it be an option. Covid has hurt everyone finically, allowing us to supply would go a long way to helping those in need survive.
Students should be allowed to opt into the alternative placement if they would prefer to gain valuable work experience, earn money, and help with the provincial teacher shortage.
The school boards need us and we need them!

Students who have received a placement should be allowed to work to support themselves financially or be provided a stipend. This allows for some financial security during these difficult times.
