Greetings everyone,

This petition page is apart of a final project for my Public Speaking class at my college. Our goal was to come up and present a speech to present to an agency, the college, the state, or even further. We were required to give a speech to our class, claim a problem, then find a solution to it, and finally, create a petition for people who would like to support this. Feel free to read a little sample of what my final presentation was about and if you would like, sign my petition for my class!

Working towards your degree can be a long process to get through. One thing that drags on this process is taking classes that don't necessarily relate to your particular major or will influence the career that you are working for. Not only is it about the classes that we take, it is also about the money we spend on college. If you are not on a scholarship or receive financial assistance, we can find ourselves in student debt and drowned in loans. College is expensive, I get that, but it is VERY rewarding. However, shouldn't we be working more towards are certain degree and taking more classes that relate to that major (Ex: in my situation, business classes) rather than ones that we don't need to complete our degree. For most degree's nowadays, we need around 120 credit hours to graduate. About 60 of those credit hours are for general education. Now, don't get me wrong, because there are several classes that are required and tagged as Gen-Ed classes that are very beneficial and influential to working towards whatever your major is. Take into consideration how much you have paid to go to college and what classes you took. Now ask yourself, were there some classes that you took that you did not understand why you had to take them or, never really used after your post-college years? That is what this is for. I would like to create a class scheduling system to take away those classes that you don't need but you can keep the ones that you think would help you throughout your career. Ultimately this will help keep student debt to a minimum and keep you more focused on your career path. I hope you take this into consideration and feel free to sign my petition.

Thank you and have a good day!

Finally someone said it! Paying thousands of dollars just to take gen eds that have zero impact on my actual career path is a complete joke and such a waste of time.
