The council finally approved the application and Sunset Surf can remain open. It has been a long and draining fight but your support kept us going when things looked bleak. We are safe for now and back to focusing on the business.

Final supporters
During the storms of 2013/14, Sunset Surf suffered significant structural damage, which threatened the ongoing operation of the business. As a result, the partners of Sunset Surf were advised to carry out emergency building works to secure the property and the business (staff, suppliers & you the customer); not to mention our family home.
Due to the complexity of the repairs the works took longer anticipated, leading to an extended period of closure. After an extremely stressful & difficult 6 months for the business, the works were finally completed in July 2014.
The first Retrospective Planning Application (PA14/06674) was unfortunately rejected by Cornwall Council in December 2014. The second Retrospective Planning Application (PA15/05086) is moving towards a review at the end of September 2015.

During this review it will be decided if the application is approved or rejected. A second rejection could seriously jeopardise the ongoing operation of the business, leading to the possible closure of Sunset Surf. This would mean the loss of up to 30 jobs, the loss of significant secondary business for our local suppliers & the loss of Sunset Surf as a favoured destination for many (both local & further afield).

This petition will be presented to support planning application PA15/05086 at the upcoming meeting where the application will be reviewed & a final decision made.

The wait for the council review is wearing us down but we are still here working behind the scenes on our next steps. People have been messaging me with their own stories about what this place means to them and those notes are the only thing keeping me going right now.

There is no doubt how valuable this business is ALL YEAR ROUND. I am local and visit as much in winter as summer. There must be a compromise achievable, change the look a bit or something to keep everyone happy and maintain the integrity of the planning law.
This resource has provided a valuable service for many years and the staff have a positive rapport with all watersports users, walkers and general public, so this should be maintained to help promote tourism and services at the beach. Good Luck Doug and Family
Please grant the retrospective planning permission. Through the webcam we have discovered this part of Cornwall and holidayed here lots of times and can't wait to return. Please keep Sunset Surf going so that others will fall in love with Cornwall too. Thank you.
We drive for 11 hours each year from Glasgow to Gwithian. Sunset Surf is one of the main reasons for this, it's quite possibly our favourite place in the country. Can some common sense prevail please and keep such a great destination running.
I would like to add my support as I fell in love with this area over a decade ago. The cafe brings significant business to this corner of the world but retains an unspoilt beauty spot. It would be a great shame and loss to lose an iconic place that so many enjoy.
A vital part of the areas tourist industry.
Gosh Karen Kernow? (is that your real name!?) that threat sounds almost criminal! We are glad you do not live next door with your luscious flower beds. Funnily enough Sunset Surf (or Sunset Stores as it was known originally) has been there since the 1930's. People that have bought property in the vicinity knew exactly what was there, and the majority of the neighbours are happy with the renovations, and in fact the sensitive and considerate manner in which the business is run. You sound like one of these people that would buy a house next to a football stadium or a pub, and then complain about the noise afterwards ;-)

sunset surf are the only on site shop for cold and hungry surfers at Gwithian. Any risk to the business to some extent risks the status of Gwithian as a surf destination. I think the changes are tasteful and appropriate and benefit the facilities available.
