The city denied the permit and they are officially looking for a new location away from the school playground. I am honestly still in shock that we actually pulled this off because I was worried the lease was too far along to stop. We really protected the kids and kept …

We the residents of Port Credit and proud parents of students at St James Catholic Global Learning Center have recently discovered that there is a Methadone Clinic opening at 348 Lakeshore Rd East, adjacent to our school with its back door only steps from our school playground. The opening of this clinic in our neighborhood won’t be good for our children nor our local businesses.

We understand the need for this type of clinic however we feel that it is both inappropriate and dangerous for our children to be in such close proximity. Our by-laws currently recognize some occupations should not be close to children such as an Adult Entertainment Establishments which should have a minimum separation distance from a Residential Zone of 800 m. and an Adult Video store also having a minimum distance of 800m. If these two businesses are considered unsafe we believe a Methadone Clinic is too.

This is a time sensitive issue as the lease has been signed and accepted and is legally bound but is pending city approval only based on parking. It is our understanding that neither the landlord nor realtor was made aware of the type of clinic that this was going to be.

This is our plea to you as parents and citizens of Port Credit to please help us to ensure our children’s safety and not allow this clinic to open.

Don't let the methadone clinic kill our community.

Thank you.

We the undersigned

I honestly did not think this would gain this much steam so fast because it feels like just yesterday I was talking to the school board about those playground exits. Seeing the groundswell of worry from everyone else confirms that I am not just being paranoid about 348 Lakeshore. We are finally getting noticed by the people who actually have the power to stop this thing.

Why on earth would they pick this spot? Common sense is needed here.

This is way to close to where my kids play. Totally unacceptable location.
