We, the undersigned, who live in or have businesses in, Southbridge, MA, object to the presence of a Methadone Clinc in town, courtesy of Spectrum Health Systems. We believe that Spectrum has used the "Dover Amendment" to bypass zoning laws by claiming that they are providing education, when in fact, they are providing medication, not education. We call on the Town Council to bring the president of Spectrum Health Systems before the Town Council, subject to questions from the residents and businesses of Southbridge, to see if they do indeed have a formalized education plan to share with us. We wish to see the day to day education that will be provided to patients during their 3-5 minute stops, as well as to explain why, if they have 150 people that will be "treated" with Methadone, in a "curative" manner, why they need more than 3 months. We further ask that Kopelman and Paige re-investigate as to whether or not the Town of Southbridge was mislead by Spectrum with their use of the "Dover Amendment" as the excuse to locate their business in our town.
