The intent of HJR0493 sponsored by Representative Bill Dunn, is to prevent school systems from suing the state for underfunding our schools.
If Article XI, Section 12, of the Constitution of Tennessee, is amended it will strip all students of their constitutional rights to receive a fair and adequate education in Tennessee public schools.
February 11, 2016, Representative Dunn’s school vouchers bill stalled because he did not have the votes in the house of representatives. Within two weeks Representative Dunn is sponsoring a joint resolution to amend TN Constitution to impose restrictions upon schools.
It seems that Representative Dunn feels that it is OK to take money from our schools to finance school vouchers but it is not OK to bring a lawsuit against the state because they are not fully funding schools.
Let’s send a message to Tennessee 109th General Assembly that we are tired of all the political pretense being perpetrated on our children and that we petition the state to fully fund our public schools.

Protect our students and teachers. The state has a responsibility and they can not silence the voice of the school systems just so they can shirk their responsibility.
*NO* child should have his or her education compromised so that a voucher system or some other funding cut could be implemented... the result would be an educational ghetto where those most in need of a fair and adequate public education would be warehoused, only to cause future problems when they are unable to care for themselves or find employment
Why are we changing a constititional protection for our children? Public education is imperfect and expensive, but it offers far more hope than incarceration and institution. Why are our lawmakers throwing in the towel instead of finding ways to adequately fund our schools? This bill is wrong for Tennessee. Please stop this bill.
It seems like the easiest way to stop lawsuits is to properly fund our schools. Fund our public schools. Private schools should be funded privately.
I am deeply troubled by this proposal. Our schools continue to be underfunded, and this move would prevent any recourse to improve the situation.
Stop the nonsense and get back to basics!!!

No to Dunn's bill that would alter the TN Constitution. Public education should be funded so that every child living in TN has an equitable opportunty to free public education without such funding being denied or filtered into the private interest sector.
