To:

Honorable Governor Bill Lee

State Capitol

Nashville, Tennessee

Governor Lee:

We, the undersigned Citizens of Tennessee, do hereby petition for the Amending of the Constitution of the State of Tennessee in order to prohibit a State Tax on Property. Article II Section 28 which pertains to a State Property Tax should be abolished. This is an onerous and potentially devastating burden for Tennessee families. It is a tax which could jeopardize the ability of local communities to properly fund education, local infrastructure and emergency responders.

Furthermore, the Tangible and Intangible Personal Property Tax which currently may be applied to every citizen in Tennessee should be limited to businesses only. Currently it too is a potential tax which has a rate set to zero. We oppose onerous taxation as it impedes an individual’s God granted rights to pursue life, liberty and happiness.

Signed,

Rob Mitchell, Rutherford County Assessor of Property

I have been reading the notes left on this page and I am truly humbled by the passion you all have for protecting our homes. This momentum is entirely due to your willingness to speak up, as I never imagined this would reach so many people.

I am honestly overwhelmed by the momentum this has gained lately. This movement belongs entirely to the people who recognize the weight of these taxes on our families. It is humbling to see so many of you standing together to protect our property rights.

Property taxes make us vassals of the state and not owners of liberty via private property.

I demand there be no more property taxes on, We the People! We are sick and tired of padding your pockets to make them thicker while we sometimes go hungry and are broke. We cant enjoy ourselves as people without forking tons of $ for taxes. We are sick of it! Vote it in, we will vote you out!

No to any more taxes. Make the state live within a budget that is zeroed out every year. No more baseline budgeting.

As retired senior citizens who have managed income responsibly and paid off our home mortgage, my husband and I live in constant fear that we will be, one day, taxed out of our home of 36 years. Our independence is at the mercy of the government and the onerous tax burden we live under. We don't have much of an income anymore, can't work like we have done for decades, and we can't even qualify for the ludicrous tax freeze program with Metro Nashville...we feel that our life's labor to own our home has gone for naught, that our home actually belongs to the government--we continue to 'rent' it with tax monies we pay every year with the limited income that is more and more needed for our own medical and basic necessity expenses. Please consider amending our state constitution to abolish the unnecessary property tax ... let's look to the more lucrative business infrastructure to shore up the tax burden. Thank you! --Linda Norfleet
