There are hundreds of children and parents who make the twice daily (more for part-time nursery children) commute to Veritas Primary Academy and Weston Road Academy each day. Many, if not most of these people are on foot, with some on bicycles. Traffic is heavy on Beaconside, especially in a morning and pedestrians have to cross over at the trepidatious roundabout with no zebra, pelican or lolipop lady/man to aid them. A new footpath is needed so that pedestrians can cross over at the technology park pelican crossing and walk to school safely. Veritas Academy is a new school and is not yet full to capacity, the amount of pedestrians on the school commute is bound to increase, therefore we must act now to avert a tragedy and have safety measures put in place.

I have submitted a formal request for a traffic assessment of the Beaconside roundabout to the local transport planning department. This documentation uses the current volume of commuters to demonstrate why a footpath extension is necessary for pedestrian safety.

The scale of this response confirms the urgency of the situation at Beaconside. I have requested a formal meeting with the council planning department to present these signatures and demand a review of the current pedestrian infrastructure.

The route to school needs to be made much safer. I have seen many close encounters on the current route. Drivers coming from Stafford exiting the round-about have no idea there is a crossing immediately after the bend. I have seen kids dash between cars driving over 30 miles an hour as they too were unaware of a car coming around the corner. Furthermore it is treacherous for any parent/carer trying to get multiple kids across, Don't let it be too late before you act!
To build a new school but not to ensure a safe route for children and their parents to get there was poor judgements.
These requests being put to the council are not unreasonable in order to keep children & parents safe. Should in my opinion be made a priority before an accident happens, not as a reaction to a serious incident.
I have personally witnessed quite a few near misses with children nearly ran over with the cars on many occasions there really needs to be something put in place as the cars drive very fast down this road and I'm very surprised no one has been seriously injured or worse .there needs to be traffic calming measures put into place to make it safe for these kids going too and coming home from school before it's too late . I really wouldn't like there to be a fatality on this road before someone sits up and takes notice . Please thank you
This is urgently needed before a child is seriously hurt. There is also the need for railings leading upto Veritas Academy as the cycle path is right next to a very busy main road and is an accident waiting to happen.

Every morning is a nightmare trying to get across that roundabout with a buggy. The traffic just doesnt stop and they come round the bend way too fast. We need a crossing before someone gets killed.
