The fantastic new school in Tunstall has been open for nearly a year now and the parking and drop off facilities for those that drive are fantastic.

Parents and children who walk to school are put at risk everyday crossing the road as the crossing points in place are ambiguous to drivers causing many drivers to stop to allow pedestrians to cross. This only works if drivers coming from both directions stop. They do not have to do this as it is the drivers right of way. If one driver stops and the one coming in the opposite direction doesn't stop, pedestrians are at serious risk of being hit by a vehicle.

Please sign this petition to support our campaign to put in place full pedestrian crossings giving access to Tunstall School and keeping pedestrians and drivers safe.

Thank you.

I didn't let my daughter walk to school with friends in her final year purely due to the lack of crossing - one car would stop and wave her other, the car coming the other way wouldn't stop. Very dangerous, a crossing is badly needed.

I cross this road 4 times a day, We definately need a crossing here. Many times I have waited and drivers haven't stopped. Or one stops one side but not the other. Drivers don't even slow down. I would feel so much happier if this was made a proper school crossing so that I can feel safe crossing the road with my young children.

As a driver I find the current situation very dangerous. I always stop at the crossing points to allow people to cross, but cars coming from the opposite direction don't always stop. This puts pedestrians in danger.

I find this very hard to believe this was not included at planning stage as it is logical that a safe crossing is needed outside of a primary school! Swale need this implemented as a matter of urgency

It is very dangerous for the families walking to and from school crossing a road with no crossing. There are many cars not associated with school using Tunstall road for shell research and cut through to the motorways. These drivers are not aware of the part of the road that the children use and may not stop .

There is a need for a crossing here, the road is extremely busy with cars, lorries and vans and sightlines for drivers are bad, especially during dark winter nights. We need a proper crossing and signage to warn motorists that children may be crossing the road!

Why are we still waiting for this? Consider ourselves incredibly fortunate that noone had been knocked over and hurt or worse!

It is dangerous the way that the crossing points are aligned with the traffic calming but not marked as such. Many drivers slow for the calming and pedestrians think they are slowing for the crossing so step out, only to find that the vehicle was not actually stopping after all. I do however think that one crossing would be sufficient as two so close together would be an annoyance to drivers and potentially counter-productive.
