Pupils of Studham CofE Village School currently have no choice but to cross Church Road on a blind corner that is a high accident risk, in order to attend school. With no footway on the school side of Church Road, the only option is for parents and children to cross at a point where visibility of oncoming vehicles is extremely poor. The potential for vehicle collision with a child and or parent is a serious daily risk.

For the safety and welfare of nearly a hundred Studham school children making this daily crossing, we suggest creation of a new footway. Laying a path on the school side of Church Road, from the bus stop up to School Lane, would enable children and parents to cross safely, at a point in the road that is straight and therefore with considerably better visibility of oncoming vehicles. The school supports this proposal, however, we need to show that a substantial number of parents also support it, before it is considered by the Parish Council on 5th March 2018. PLEASE SIGN OUR PETITION TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT for safer school access for the children of Studham School.

Updates

February 20, 2018

I was standing on the corner of Church Road again this morning watching the traffic whip around that bend and it honestly just makes my stomach drop every single time. It feels like we are shouting into the void while waiting for the council to actually listen but the emails to the local office are finally starting to pile up in my outbox.

I wholeheartedly endorse this initiative which is minor in scope but which could be a life saver. It is a practical measure that should be taken.

It would be wonderful to address this risk prior to an accident. I hope the parish council appreciates that it will be a very different meeting if they fail to secure the pathway and we have to come back to them following a serious accident.

I feel that a path would enable children to cross the road in a safer place as it would be away from the corner of the road and then they can complete the rest of their journey without walking on the grass verge.

This is a great idea. Creating a crossing where visibility is clearer would be a much safer option.

I live on church road and I am fed up of the back log of cars parked all the way up the road past my house. Making it impossible for other cars pedestrians to get past. I will sign this in the hope they get a path built. I can't imagine it stopping the parents parking all the way up church road.

It's very dangerous I don't understand how a accident hasn't come about already

Totally in support of this, it would make a huge difference and is very much needed.
