This Petiition is to draw attention to the insufficient number of street lights throughout our Shearwater community. The limited number of street lights in the variousneighborhoods is dangerous for the amount of children in our community. Residents should feel safe walking their pets or taking an evening stroll. The developers promote they want neighbors to congregate and socialize; but, after dusk it is too dark to be outside and unsafe for our children to play. This will become an even bigger concern once daylight savings occurs.

Several members of the community have submitted this concern to the directors in writing and also verbally during neighborhood orientations. The response has been:

"The developer has chosen to keep the street lighting low to keep a tranquil feeling throughout the community. The current lighting does fall within the county code."

Also, individuals were told that if they would like to add additional exterior lighting at their home the board would be happy to review for approval.

This is unacceptable! Basically they are stating they have installed the minimum required lighting to be up to code and are trying to say that it is to promote a tranquil feeling. But, in reality it is a budget issue.
