There are already 2 main car parks that charge a fee, now the 2 hour free parking around Barry island is proposed to become on street paid parking at a cost to the vale council ( tax payers money) of £89k.

Zero consultation has been undertaken with local businesses and locals.

This will be damaging to local businesses, community groups and locals who like to visit quickly for a drink, snack, walk or meet with friends.

They want locals to buy a season ticket costing £100 to park in the main car parks. Even though we pay more than enough council tax with services reduced.

The council say they ‘want to be the best council they can’ - so it’s time they listen to local residents.

I have submitted a formal request for the full breakdown of the proposed eighty-nine thousand pound implementation cost. Local business owners are currently documenting their expected losses to be included in our upcoming briefing package for council members.

Retired locals like to come to the island daily year round to meet friends at the cafes. Charging would make this untenable. The annual fee for car park is too expensive and further to walk for those who struggle bur don't have a blue badge.

We pay enough in council tax and abolishing the two hour free parking would seriously impact on business. We are a social running group and it would impact people’s ability to attend our sessions, most of which start from the island or knap area

Think this is a terrible decision. People only have a certain amount of money to spend. If it's used on parking so they can have a walk in that lovely area. They'll not have enough funds to then spend in a cafe or shop. Your taking away people's livelihoods

For a dog Walker frequenting the beach with my dog on an almost daily basis and spending money on local business working hard on the seafront, this would be detrimental to these businesses as I would chose to walk my dog elsewhere where parking is free.

I live in Barry and drive to Barry Island several times a week, for community groups, health and well being and meeting friends. I am on a pension with no extra benefits. I couldn't afford extra costs of parking on side roads, so I would avoid going there.

The free two hour parking enables us to go to the island for ice cream / into the arcades in the evenings / after school which will not be justifiable if having to pay to park. This will cause loss of earnings to the local businesses so I oppose this.

I strongly oppose the introduction of on-street parking charges at Barry Island. These charges will discourage visitors, negatively impact local businesses, and put extra pressure on nearby residential streets. Barry Island thrives on tourism and accessibility, and free parking is essential to keeping it welcoming and affordable for families. Please scrap these unfair charges and support our community.

It is the local residents mainly pensioners who keep the businesses at Barry Island and the Knap trading off- season. It’s unreasonable to charge parking fees, I understand that we have the option to purchase a Parking Permit /Parking Season Ticket, however that is an expense that many can do without, we already pay an excessive amount in Council Tax.
