We the undersigned call for the scrapping of car parking charges
at the Livingston Centre after the third hike in recent years.
Since the charges were first introduced in June 2011, they have
increased three fold with no guarantee that they will not be increased again in
the future and without any exemption for people with disabilities.
We note that comparable shopping centres, such as The Gyle,
Hermiston Gait, Fort Kinnaird in Edinburgh all offer free car parking.
We believe that the ever increasing car parking charges at
Livingston are deterring people from using the Centre, which is having a
negative impact on local shops and businesses.
Shocking system. These practices in the long term only harm trade and the local economy as people will chose to spend their money where they are not penalised for parking where they chose to shop.
