Dear neighbors, I am writing to bring your attention to the news on July 2nd Milpitas Post: City of San Jose is considering a 95-foot height extension of the Newby Landfill, stretching its design height from 150 ft to 245 feet above mean sea level, which is equivalent of the height of a 20-story building. Although the landfill will be landscaped, it will inevitably bring negative environmental impacts to the surrounding areas with increasing odor, litter and methane gas and potentially BRING DOWN OUR PROPERTY VALUES. Currently, City of San Jose is preparing a draft environmental impact report. According to the news, the response from nearby residents has not been reflected so far in the report. So your opinion DOES count. If you feel the same way as we do, please sign this online petition. Simply enter your name and email address. The organizer of this petition will present this petition to the council member of the City of San Jose. We will also contact the major environmental agencies to get their attentions to this matter. The more people to sign this petition, the higher the chance to stop the height increase plan. If nobody voice objection to the height increase plan, the plan will be passed next year. Things will be too late to be changed. Please say NO to the proposed newby landfill height increase plan and urge City of San Jose find alternative sites to solve the solid waste deposit problems. Together we can make a difference. Let\'s say NO to the landfill height increase. Sincerely, The petition organizers

The current level of engagement has formally triggered a request for a meeting with the San Jose Planning Department. We are now finalizing our primary arguments regarding the environmental impact report to present at that session.

Are you kidding me? My property value is going to tank if they do this. Stop dumping everything in our backyard.

NO WAY. The smell is bad enough on hot days and the traffic is already a mess. This is just a terrible idea for everyone living here.

we already have to deal with the smell as it is, do they really think we want a giant pile of trash looming over our houses? completely ridiculous.
