NOTE:  THIS PETITION IS NOW CLOSED.  A COPY OF THIS PETITION WITH 175 SIGNATURES WAS EMAILED TO THE VENTURA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS ON MARCH 1, 2011.

To the Ventura County Board of Supervisors,

We the undersigned oppose the expansion of the Simi Valley Landfill. We urge the Ventura County Board of Supervisors to deny Waste Mangement's proposal to triple the landfill's capacity. We urge the Supervisors to vote for "Alternative 5: No Project Alternative". Simi Valley should not be allowed to become the waste repository for trash from Los Angeles County and other communities. We are concerned about the potential detrimental impacts on air quality, odors, traffic, open space, and hillside views. The current capacity of the Simi Valley Landfill is permitted through 2034 and is adequate for Simi Valley's and Ventura County's needs. We do not need to expand the landfill to accept more trash from other communities that are reluctant to provide for their own waste disposal.

I have been spending my evenings researching the zoning maps and drafting detailed arguments to counter the expansion proposal. The silence from the supervisors has been frustrating but it only motivates me further to protect our neighborhood from becoming a dumping ground.

Seeing this kind of energy behind the fight to protect our hills is humbling. Your support proves that our community refuses to be a dumping ground for other cities.

Think about the air quality for our kids. We live here and deserve better than this.

Enough is enough. Stop the expansion.

NO WAY. This place is for families not for storing garbage for half the state.

Keep our valley green. Tired of LA dumping their mess on us just because they dont want their own landfill nearby.

The traffic is already a nightmare on the 118. Putting more trash trucks on the road is just asking for accidents.

We already deal with the smells and the noise. Why would anyone think making it bigger is a good idea?? Disgraceful.
