A developer seeks to construct alandfill on a1750-acre farm at the intersection of Harrington Hwy and the Dan River near Eden, NC. The proposed project has high potential for river contamination and that would jeopardize Rockingham County's main source of drinking water, limit recreation and hamper economic development efforts in the future. Dan River Basin Association (www.danriver.org) has recruited a task force of community volunteers and experts. The task force has engaged legal authority on landfill issues to oppose the development proposed by PBK Holdings, LLC. Several groups have publicaly voiced their opposition to the project including the City of Eden, the Town of Wentworth, MillerCoors, the Rockingham County Democratic Party, Will of the People, Rockingham County Association of Realtors, and the Rockingham County Solid Waste Authority. Seeing two hundred and fifty neighbors sign this petition reminds me why I fought so hard to protect the land I grew up on. This momentum proves that our community refuses to let the Dan River be treated like a dumping ground.

I have spent my mornings talking with neighbors who grew up swimming in the Dan River and worry about what this landfill will do to our home. People are rightfully terrified of the threat to our drinking water, and your support proves that we refuse to let a developer ruin our land for profit.

Surely there are other locations for this landfill that would not jeopardize drinking water as severely!
ARE THEY CRAZY? Keeping our drinking water clean has to come first. Find somewhere else to dump the trash.
My kids swim in that water in the summer. No way this should ever be allowed to happen right near the river.
This land is meant for farming and nature not for a massive landfill that will ruin everything for miles.
The river is the heart of this town. We cant let them destroy it just for a quick buck.

Who on the Eden City Council and in City Hall leadership positions would ever consider such an action? Probably just as dumb as putting sewer lines along the rivers & creeks in the City.
