Do we need a second, full-service municipal waste depot 20 m away from an existing one?
This is a petition to STOP THE REZONING OF 2375 HAYES ROAD. Re-zoning this site will allow for a second, full-service residential waste collection depot steps away from the Nanaimo Recycling Exchange.
Support local community recycling by letting City Council and City staff know that you SAY NO to re-zoning 2375 Hayes Road.
If re-zoning is allowed to happen...
-concentration of waste management services in one area of Nanaimo when other areas are in need
-NO full bottle refund site for Nanaimo's south end
-removal of the ability for your local recyclables to generate more opportunities in this community for recycling and for environmental protection
-local non-profit with deep roots within the community will suffer to the benefit of a private, for-profit company
I have spent the past few days reviewing the detailed zoning maps and gathering evidence regarding the impact this facility will have on our local infrastructure. While the city has not yet provided a formal response to our concerns, your continued engagement ensures that this proposal remains on the public record.

The level of public engagement regarding the re-zoning of Hayes Road has exceeded my initial expectations. This collective momentum signals to the City Council that our community is deeply invested in the future of local recycling services.

This is a terrible idea. We dont need more trash depots in one spot. Why not put it somewhere that actually needs the service???

Leave the recycling exchange alone! They do great work for nanaimo and deserve better than this.

Ridiculous to squeeze another one in right next door. Our neighborhood is already dealing with enough traffic and smell. Stop this now.
