I am writing to you as a concerned citizen and an active participant in the Sevierville community. I would like to bring your attention to an issue affecting overnight rental properties and its associated cleaners in our town.

First and foremost, I would like to acknowledge the recent tax increase of 25% to 40% that has burdened the owners in the overnight rental market. An increase was to be expected, but given the already substantial impact of this tax increase, it is important that we consider other areas where additional fees can be minimized or eliminated.

The purpose of this petition is to request your support in allowing, cleaners, who provide an essential service in maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of overnight rental properties, to have access to the convenience centers in Sevier County for the disposal of garbage. We believe that by maintaing this, it will not only alleviate the logistical challenges faced by cleaners but also contribute to the overall cleanliness and sanitation of our community. By enabling cleaners to utilize the convenience centers for garbage disposal, we can ensure that waste management in the overnight rental market is conducted efficiently and responsibly. This would not only benefit the cleaners but also the owners, who would have peace of mind knowing that proper waste disposal is being carried out. Furthermore, it would contribute to maintaining the pristine image of Sevierville, a town known for its beauty and tourist appeal. This can lead to increased littering or improper disposal methods, which have a negative impact on the environment and the overall cleanliness of the community. If only one designated location is to be chosen, this WILL cause an increase in improper disposal methods.

Cleaners in the area perform a crucial service, ensuring that guests have a pleasant and comfortable stay. They work diligently, often under tight schedules, to keep these properties in pristine condition. Currently, cleaners in the overnight rental market are struggling to find suitable places to dispose of the accumulated waste from these properties. The absence of designated dumping areas forces them to navigate complex waste management systems or resort to makeshift solutions that are far from ideal. This not only adds unnecessary stress to their already demanding work but also poses potential health and environmental risks.

In light of the recent tax increase, we kindly request that no additional fees be imposed on owners for availing the services of the convenience centers to dispose of garbage in overnight rentals. We believe that the owners have already faced a significant financial burden, and imposing further fees would only compound their challenges.

We propose that the implementation of this petition be done in consultation with relevant stakeholders, including representatives from the overnight rental market, cleaning service providers, and waste management authorities. This collaborative effort will ensure that the concerns of all parties involved are addressed, and an optimal solution can be reached.

We sincerely hope that you will give careful consideration to this petition and work towards implementing the necessary measures to allow cleaners to continue disposing of garbage at convenience centers in county limits without extra fees being imposed on vacation rental homeowners. By doing so, we can foster a more efficient waste management system, alleviate the financial burden on owners, and maintain the appeal and cleanliness of our beloved city.

To demonstrate broad support for this cause, I have attached a list of signatures from individuals who share the same concerns. We remain hopeful for a positive response and look forward to working together towards a cleaner and more prosperous Sevier County.

Sincerely,

Concerned Owners of the Smoky Mountains
