At the August 5th Clifton City Council meeting, a proposal was presented to reduce residential garbage collection from twice a week to once a week, reduce bulk pickup to every other week, and introduce an additional fee for bulk collection.

For Clifton families—particularly larger households and families with many children—once-a-week garbage collection is not sufficient. Household waste accumulates quickly, and when garbage sits for extended periods, it leads to overflowing cans, unpleasant odors, and increased attraction of insects, rodents, and other wildlife, which affects sanitation and overall quality of life. This concern is especially felt by residents living near cemeteries where wildlife activity is higher.

Clifton residents already pay substantial property taxes and have long relied on twice-weekly garbage collection as an important municipal service. Many residents would find it difficult to adjust to reduced sanitation services alongside additional fees for bulk pickup.

We, the undersigned, respectfully ask the Clifton City Council to maintain twice-weekly garbage collection and regular bulk pickup without additional charges to residents. We also request that the City Council hold a public meeting before any final decision is made, allowing Clifton residents an opportunity to share their perspectives and discuss how these proposed changes will affect our families and neighborhoods.

Please add your name in support of keeping Clifton clean, healthy, and affordable for our families.

We need twice a week pickup or we will b over run with garbage and the animals and smell that comes with that - reducing services without significant financial refund is unconscionable

I oppose reducing garbage pickup to once weekly and charging for bulk pickup. As a corner homeowner, I am required to keep my bins in my backyard, making a 96-gallon bin difficult to move to the curb.

I am a Clifton resident and I pay enormous taxes. The least my tax dollars can do is cover the most basic municipal services. But it’s about more than that, it’s about decency to your constituents, it’s about allowing them to live freely and produce waste as humans do without worrying that the back of their house will stink for a week.
