We, the neighbors, homeowners, and community around Zamora St. Jamaica Plain, MA, are urging the City of Boston to oppose the demolition of a historic home to make way for an undisclosed number of condo units on lovely little Zamora Street. The home at 15 Zamora St. and adjoining non-conforming open parcels hold a two-family home built by former Mayors Nelson and Edwin Curtis. The green space on both sides of the home is the last open space between the Riverway and South Huntington Avenue. The Boston Landmark Commission has unanimously opposed the demolition of this property.
We are asking the Inspectional Services Department, City of Boston, and the 15 Zamora LLC to come together with us for a respectful discussion about keeping the number of units down to what the property is currently zoned for, preferably in the home on the parcel. Zamora Street will be forever changed by what appears to be an undisclosed plan for up to 9 units on the parcel.

Seeing this much support for our street proves just how much this historic home and our shared green space mean to our neighborhood. We have real momentum now and I am taking this energy directly to the city officials who hold the future of Zamora Street in their hands.

I formerly lived at 12 Zamora St. (still close by). The street is already densely populated. I don’t see how it could absorb more units and cars. Changes in the last 10 years have already altered what was once a JP gem.
I get it: we need more housing. But why here, why destroy this house? Why eliminate green space when all signs point towards how essential it is to combat climate change? How about a competition for architects to adapt this existing structure into the number of units the property is already zoned for? Perhaps some microlofts at an affordable price point (like the Providence Arcade)? A little creativity could go a long way.
Unless the lot will be developed as affordable housing, I am opposed to demolishing this house and destroying the greenspace. JP does not need more million dollar condos.
I live next door at 9 Zamora St - it would be such a shame if this beautiful and historic home was demolished. I've loved living on this peaceful street and the green space on either side of this home is so valuable.
Save the beautiful buildings that give JP it’s distinct style and culture . Stop the building !! Reuse, recycle, repurpose. I’ve lived here in the same house since 1963. I couldn’t afford to live here now, that’s the bigger shame if it all. You’re not constructing affordable housing which has changed JPs culture and charm!

This was my home for almost 30 years. The house has so much potential and history.
