*update* most of the skatepark is still there but some main ramps were removed. The petition most definitely helped. Today August 6th, 2016 I went to Riverhead skate park. The first thing I noticed was how many of the ramps the town put new wood on, even though it was completely unnecessary. The odd part about seeing the park was how over the course of at least a year, the spine wasn't even fixed. It was very disappointing to see considering the spine was one of the few ramps that actually needed new wood. But the town is saying they need $28,000-$76,000 more to repair the rest of the park. How are they really planning to use this money if they have $48,000 gap between the amount of money that needs to be spent to repair one more ramp. Back to the matter at hand, the town would like to replace the WHOLE bottom of the skate park with the pickle ball court. Yes, a pickle ball court. Not only can people play at Riverhead high school's tennis courts, they can also use the hockey rink right outside of the skate park. How foolish is it to remove the entire bottom of the skate park although a tremendous part of the $50,000 raised by the town went towards the ramps on the bottom? Removing the entire bottom of the skate park leaves skateboarders, scooter riders, rollerbladers, and bike riders crammed into the top of the park. I feel it is important to say that the top of the skate park is less than half of the size of the bottom area. One cannot force themselves to believe skateboarders, scooter riders, rollerbladers, and bike riders can ride in such a tiny area at once. I'd rather ride in the steets because it is most likely safer and more fun then riding with many groups of people just in the top part of Riverhead Skatepark. The skate park closed for well over year now and anyone who paid for year-long membership was ripped off. Recently, it is said that the town is going to remove the entire bottom of the park that they just repaired, with a replacement of a pickle ball court. Sign this petition and I'll take it to the recreation's office. Maybe we can make the town reconsider. Let's take action before it's too late. Please sign this petition with your FIRST AND LAST name. Thank you!!
