The Town of Plymouth has plans to redevelop Veteran's Park, putting Plymside at risk of demolition.
I attended the North Plymouth Steering Committee meeting this past September to advocate for Plymside to be maintained in its current state. The response from the Steering Committee was supportive, but there is still necessary action to make sure Plymside will survive this upcoming project.
I was urged by the Steering Committee to organize as many users of the park as possible to advocate for our want to leave Plymside untouched and uninvolved from Town development plans.
On Wednesday, October 21 at 7pm, the next North Plymouth Steering Committee meeting will be held at Cordage Park, Building 10, suite 228A. Nick Faiella, the Town Parks and Forestry Superintendent heading the redevelopment project, will be in attendance, showcasing design plans. This is our opportunity to show up in number and make sure our voices are not ignored.
The Steering Committee advised that the greater the turnout, the greater the impact and sway we can have on the outcome of this project. If Plymside holds a place in your heart, this is the time to act. Please consider attending this meeting. You are not obliged to give a speech or take a stand - folks just showing up in support is all we need.
If you are unable to attend, signing this petition still makes a difference. Every person who signs creates a tangible force of opposition against the destruction of Plymside.
In addition, sending an email to Nick Faiella at [email protected] with the subject line "Protect Plymside" could make a major impact. Please, keep it respectful, and advocate for Plymside through its importance to you, the community, and the Town of Plymouth.
Plymside brings in people from all across the state to see and skate this sick little park built with love by the community. That brings real money into town, spent on local restaurants and businesses. Money and greed run these projects, so it never hurts to bring up a positive economic impact.
Thank you for your consideration and for any steps you can take to Protect Plymside!

This is a part of Plymouth, and built and ridden by local skaters. Alevery one of us prefer to ride at plymside instead of the other stupid skatepark that no one even goes to!
Bringing in revenue to the local restaurants and businesses and giving those who enjoy the park so much pleasure has a very positive impact on everyone. Let's keep the park the way it is and honoring those who put so much time, money and effort into building it and giving so many people the pleasure in using it.
Plymside is important both as a gathering space for the youth and as a symbol. Its a space made by the community and for the community, rather than one bestowed upon us by someone higher power. Its existence gives a feeling of agency and community membership that no new construction could hope to provide. Improvements and added amenities would be fine, but to remove or otherwise change it takes it from being OUR park to being YOUR park that we're allowed to use. Huge difference. Save the DIY!
This park is a staple in the community. It is built for the people by the people and creates a community that is safe for everyone and completely welcoming. Demolition would bring an end to a decades old community that is built around creativity, passion, and accessibility.
Save the park Save the children
My friends children skate there
Why get rid of something that brings such joy to the community, especially its youth? I wholeheartedly support keeping this park, which was built with dedication and perseverance, in existence. The kids using this park aren’t numbingly staring into a phone screen and that’s always a good thing.

I’ve owned a home in North Plymouth since 2010, I bring my 2nd grader who really benefits. He has a park w/i walking distance of home, and a place to work and play hard. He interacts with elementary school kids and young adults. He watches older “cool kids” work at skills, fail and be wildly successful. He practices overcoming fear, refines social skills asking for tips, and I see young adults give time and encouragement to little guys all the time. What a special part of the North Ply Village!
